My name is Carrie, and my guys are Brandon and Ben. We all three love to eat, and Brandon and I have developed a huge passion for all things food. I love trying new recipes, and lucky for me, my guys love eating them (well, sometimes not Ben. But hey, he’s two!). Our dinner time together every night is one of the best parts of the day. And when special occasions roll around, there aren’t many things better than celebrating as a family and with our loved ones over good food and drinks.
As for what we cook, we’re always trying to cook and eat in a way that’s good for ourselves and good for the environment. We try to buy our meats from animals that have been humanely raised, which is something that we’re extremely passionate about. We avoid processed foods and processed carbohydrates as much as possible these days, and our meals tend to include a good variety of meats, vegetables, and fats. We strive to find a nice balance between enjoying our favorite foods and trying as many new things as we can while we’re lucky enough to be here.
From the three of us to all of you, here’s to family and food.
Feel free to contact us at threeowlskitchen@gmail.com.
Carrie,
So glad you liked my blog, thanks for checking it out. That Roasted Pepper & Goat Cheese Sandwich is so yummy, you should try it. Definitely would be great as a panini, I still have to buy myself one! Love your blog, by the way. Great job!
Susan
Carrie, just dropped in to thank you for your visit to my blog. I hope you’ll come again. I love the recipes you’ve posted on your blog. I’ll be back.
you’re profile is so cute!!! thanks for sharing your recipes =)
This is adorable – my boyfriend and I are the same way. We both went to culinary school, so he’s more than willing to taste all of my experiments!!
Great picture!!!
Hilarious — we sound like we have very similar cooking attitudes — healthier, with more cilantro please! :) And we both used our wedding pics on our about pages. Subscribing to your RSS feed.
Thanks for clicking over. Foodgawker has an insatiable appetite I keep feeding it and it keeps sending me to the second page ;-) Great website you’ve got going almost your one year blogiversary!
Hi Carrie, my sister introduced me to your site because it reminded her of what a friend and I are doing at our site, He Cooks She Cooks. Your dishes look great, and I look forward to reading more!
Thanks for visiting my site! You have a gorgeous blog yourself! I like the picture of you guys eating wedding cake! I wish we had one like that too :)
Hi Carrie – thanks again for visiting! LOVE this photo. If you two ever decide to have kids, meal time gets even more fun.
Cheers,
Amy
You and your guy sounds just like me and my guy! We’ve agreed that food is the cornerstone of our relationship: we love to eat it, make it, and rave about it to our friends.
I’m going to send this blog to my guy. I know he’ll love it.
What’s also ironic is that my new blog is similar to this one, but with a focus on the environment instead. Good luck with everything! I’ll definitely be back.
Hey Carrie,
I found your blog on Foodie Blogroll today and I just wanted to stop by and tell you how much I love it! I’ll be adding you to my blogroll and checking in frequently!
You and your husband sound just like me and mine…food is definitely one of the things we love to share — with each other and with others — and I love meeting similar people.
See you in the blogosphere!

Wonderful blog! And I love your list… there’s so much to try, so much to learn. And I guess that’s why we blog about something we love.
I just love, love, love your blog! I love to cook and will definitely be trying some of the recipes that you and B. have enjoyed. Adding you to my blog roll!
Great site! I’m a foodie as well and love trying new things. Will definitely give some of your recipes a try! Take care and continue with the great posts!
I love your blog. It is very inpspiring, I don’t even know where to start. Maybe the Portobello stuffed mushrooms. :)Thank you for sharing these wonderful recipes.
I eat similary, I LOVE frutis and veggies. But I haven’t been able to get the whole household on board yet, work in progress…..Thanks for the blog comments!
Hi,
What a beautiful blog you have! I love your recipes, fresh, healthy and delish. So since I like everything about your blog I’ll forgive the Detroit Red Wings photo ;) I’m a Blackhaw fan. hehe Cute photos!
Just came across your blog and love it! We own a Big Green Egg and are amateur “Eggheads” – we love smoking/grilling/baking just about anything on it. This year, we’ll be participating in Eggtoberfest in Altanta as “cooks” instead of just spectators as we have in years past. So please keep the charcoal grill recipes coming – we’re always looking to try new ones!
And like the previous poster, for the great blog, I can forgive the Red Wings loyalty. I’m a lifelong Penguins fan… not to be confused with the Stanley Cup bandwagon fans :)
Hello! I stumbled across your blog – great recipes!! :)
This is an awsome website! What are you going to make us for Thanksgiving?
Thanks, Glenn! I would love to make anything for Thanksgiving :) Can’t wait!
Hello! I visited your blog for the first time tonight and love love love the pictures! I just started my own food blog in 2011. (justpinchme.wordpress.com) Food I can do but photography is a new endeavor for me. My hubbie surprised me with a Nikon D90 for Christmas! Right now it is a bit overkill since I just learned yesterday what aperture was while reading the “Nikon D90 for Dummies” yellow & black manual. Needless to say I am in “point and shoot” mode for the near future. I am passionate about embracing photography and want to do food pornography pictures like what you guys have on your blog! Any suggestions or guidance for me? I am assuming surely one of you have a professional photography background? Your blog rocks by the way and I am now a proud subscriber! thanks :) cathleen
Thanks for such nice comments, Cathleen! I’m actually in the same boat as you – my husband surprised me with a Canon DSLR for Christmas, so I’m just trying to learn how to use it, too! Up until then I had been using a Canon point and shoot (with a lot of frustrations).
Just from doing this for a while, I think my biggest piece of advice is to use natural light whenever you can! No matter how hard I try to make food photos look good in just the lights from my kitchen, it never works (& as evidenced by a lot of my older posts). Just sunlight is the best, but my husband bought me a Lowell Ego Light that has been working fabulously for the winter months. My second biggest piece of advice is to have fun plating things & to take a lot a photos! I’ll take a ton from different angles, moving things around, and usually I get one or two that I like.
Good luck, and I hope you have fun! I’m going to check out your blog now :)
Thanks Carrie! My daughter was home from school this weekend. She loves photography and helped me out quite a bit. She suggested purchasing an additional Nikon lens called the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D. It was only about $100 and I love it! It is perfect to take really up close pictures of food. I am still in point and shoot mode and it works great. The other thing she suggested was the natural light (just like you!). We put the food right between the window and a makeshift reflector to minimize shadow. (I used aluminum foil wrapped around a piece of cardboard). She’s going to teach me some basic Photoshop editing stuff tomorrow. Yea!! Hopefully my pictures will start looking as scrumptious as yours soon! Thanks so much for taking the time to lend such great suggestions and happy blogging!!
Cathleen
You guys are having so much fun! I love it!
This is such a nice ‘about’ page! My husband and I also love travelling and Paris is one of our favourites. We like hockey too- go Canucks!

Your blog is gorgeous Carrie!! Ah, I am so grateful to WordPress for suggesting that I follow you (clever little Reader!). I’m glad that you, Brandon and Ben are enjoying life. You guys seem very similar to my man Aaron and I (we haven’t created any little ‘uns yet but… well, maybe in the next couple of years!). We live in Australia, but after seeing your Appalachian trail photos I want to book a trip to the USA! Wow. Amazing scenery! Anyway, you’re creating a beautiful thing here. Thanks for sharing snapshots of your food obsession and life with us! xx
Thank you so much for all of the compliments! We really have a fun time with the blog….trying new recipes and making our old favorites better. Ben is 10 1/2 months now and just loves to eat, too!
There is definitely a lot of gorgeous scenery here….but I’ve always thought the same thing about Australia and have always wanted to visit there! So much cool stuff in the world :)

Thank you so much! And apologies for my delay in responding! We really appreciate the nomination!
I SO miss your recipies! It’s because of you that I actually started to learn how to cook a bit and I love your cooking style. I have made many of your dishes and have loved them all. I’m sure you are quite busy with the little one but any chance you might be back with more recipies?
Thank you so much! This made me so happy to read. I’m determined to get back into blogging again right now! Life did get hectic with the boy, but things are calming down a bit and I do miss blogging. Getting ready with some new recipes now!
Thanks again for the kind words.
I stumbled upon your blog and I’m glad I did. I raised 3 boys and made their own babyfood (people thought I was a bit crazy). As a new empty nester I am exploring more animal free options (and my new blog is keeping me busy). Best of luck to you and your new family. Beautiful!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I made Ben’s own baby food too, but now he’s at the point where he just eats whatever we eat. Such fun! I hope you find some recipes that are to your liking here :)
